Retiree health insurance launched in Kuwait

Kuwait’s Minister of Health Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi has launched health insurance for the country’s retirees. Dr Al-Obaidi announced on Wednesday that 117,000 citizens will be eligible for the insurance. The government will begin to issue cards which retirees can receive from 45 offices from across the country.

Retirees will be able to choose from a list of different healthcare providers – all of which comply with international health standards. Set to cost KD 82 million, the plan is one of many projects set to improve the country’s health sector.

Expats are unlikely to be affected as becoming a Kuwaiti citizen is extremely difficult for foreigners.
